Detailed fly tying sequence of the classic still water fly Bibio.
Bibio is a traditional native Irish wet fly pattern. Once taught for sea trout fishing, the Bibio is now a great all-purpose pattern for still water trout and rainbow trout fishing and will do the job as a wet fly for river fly fishing.
Fly tying materials:
Hook: Wet 8 - 14
Thread: Black
Body: Black and red seal fur
Hackle: Black cock
Ribbing: Fine oval silver tinsel or silver wire
Advice on tying the fly: You can try tying the hackle with differenet density - a fly with thinner hackles will not cause as much disturbance in the water as a more tightly tied pattern. Recently, seal dubbing has become hard to find and can be replaced with synthetic dubbing with similar properties.
