Detailed tying instructions of the popular still water fly for rainbow trout fishing. Photographs by the well-known English fly fisherman and author of books and articles on fly fishing Peter Gathercole.
The still water booby pattern with large foam eyes can be tied in a variety of color combinations. The black-green combination is based on the basic Viva/Montana still water lure.
Fly tying materials:
Hook: Wet 8-10
Thread: Black
Eyes: Black polycellon rollers
Body: Black fritz chenille
Wing: Black marabou feather
Tip: Fluo green thread
Advice on tying the eyes: use a thicker thread when tying the polycelon roller, as too thin a tying thread could cut the rollers. Apply a drop of Superglue on the thread between the eyes, the eyes will then sit better on the fly.
