Detailed tying procedure of probably the best trout streamer of all time. The Woolly Bugger is an all-purpose trout streamer that will be successful on all types of trout waters - rivers and still waters. The most commonly used versions are the black or olive Woolly Bugger, but we can also make other color variations and combinations with success.
Fly tying materials:
Hook: Streamer extra long shank 2 - 10
Thread: Black
Weight: Lead wire
Body: Black chenille
Hackle: Cock saddle hackle
Tail: Black turkey marabou and pearl Krystal Flash Hair
Advice on tying the fly: if you need to put more weight on the streamer, it is possible to use a cone head to tie the head, which in addition to the extra weight will give the streamer a different action in the water column. Use feathers from the cock saddle for tying the legs - the hackle from the saddle is longer and will create an even length of legs across the body of the fly. You can also use a fine black wire to thread the legs to stiffen the fly.
